Assisi is a town and commune of Italy in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region, on the western flank of Monte Subsio. It was the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208, and St. Clare, the founder of the Poor Sisters, which later became the Order of Poor Clares after her death. Mount Subsio is a mountain of the Apennine Mountains.
We arrived at the base of Assisi in the late afternoon of Sunday, September 28, 2014. The sun was hitting the city up on the mountain so we took a short walk up to the base of the mountain. What a beautiful city as seen in the following pictures. We would be spending the next two nights in Assisi.
